Who We Are

My name is Matthew Abate. I am American, with Italian roots, and am currently a student at New York University Abu Dhabi. Alhamdulillah, I embraced Islam in 2020 during the Covid Pandemic, and since moving to Abu Dhabi for university, have made my religion and my character my priority more than ever.

During my first two years as a Muslim, it was incredibly hard to practice. I was not ready to tell my family, Masjids were few and far between, school did not allow for Jummah prayer, and my old friends were constant in haram. There was not enough support at home or in the world to make this transition smooth, and now I want to change that!

The goal of The Revert Project is to give reverting or reverted Muslims access to Islamic concepts, materials, and activities in a safe and loving way, where they will not have to worry about harm from non-accepting family members or incorrect and overly critical teachings from fellow Muslims.

We always stay true to the word of Allah SWT, we just don’t want you to feel judged for having questions, concerns, or even doubts. We’re here to help clear these up and make you feel comfortable and confident in your identity!
